The occurrence of dissociated strains of Brucella melitensis in the milk of goats in Malta.

چکیده
In the routine typing of Br. melitensis isolated from goats' milk in Malta, it was found that I I of 46 strains gave entirely negative reactions to agglutination tests in which both mono-specific Br. abortus a nd mono-specific Br. melitensis sera were used: in all other respects these strains appeared to be typical Br. melitensis. All the strains were isolated on albimi agar containing antibiotics and the first subculture, made by picking a single colony on to serum-dextrose agar, was used in the tests.

Brucella melitensis is the causative agent of brucellosis in small ruminants and is of considerable economic and public health importance in many countries worldwide. The control of disease in humans depends on the control of disease in livestock; however, few counties with endemic B. melitensis infection have been able to successfully eradicate this pathogen. This underscores the need for furt...

Detection of Brucella melitensis and Brucella abortus strains using a single-stage PCR method
Brucella melitensis and Brucella abortus are of the most important causes of brucellosis, an infectious disease which is transmitted either directly or indirectly including consuming unpasteurized dairy products. Both strains are considered endemic in Iran. Common diagnostic methods such as bacteriologic cultures are difficult and time consuming regarding the bacteria. The aim of this study w...

Brucellosis is the most frequent zoonotic disease worldwide, with over 500,000 new human infections every year. Brucella melitensis, the most virulent species in humans, primarily affects goats and the zoonotic transmission occurs by ingestion of unpasteurized milk products or through direct contact with fetal tissues. Brucellosis is endemic in India but no information is available on populatio...
